Biograd na Moru is a town and port in North Dalmatia. It is situated on a small peninsula, 28 km south of  Zadar. Biograd na Moru is a Croatian royal city which was first time mentioned in the 10th century, in the 11th century it was the seat of Croatian kings and bishops. The city was burnt down twice during Venetian-Turkish wars. Today it has about 5 900 inhabitants who mainly live from tourism, agriculture and fishing. Tourism started developing between the two world wars. From the city there is a splendid view on the canal of Pašman and little islands scattered all over. Biograd is the center of the Riviera which includes other cities like Pakoštane, St. Philip and Jacob as well as some places on the island of Pašman

A great variety of accommodation in the city gives tourists a possibility to choose. The first hotel was built in 1935 where today hotel Ilirija stands. In addition to the numerous hotels, apartments, pensions and private accommodation in Biograd, there are a lot of recreational and sports activities provided in the town. Biograd na Moru is a nautical center with 2 marinas which has made very popular among sailors. Biograd has one of the most equipped tennis camps in this part of the Adriatic. Besides tennis, there are possibilities to take courses in diving and sailing. In the vicinity of Biograd there are 3 national parks to which trips can be organized as well as two nature parks.

What to see – sights in Biograd na Moru: 

When the city became the seat of bishops, the Benedictine monastery of St. John was built and after that the monastery of St. Tom. Remains of the Roman villa rustic are preserved. In the surroundings of the city some remains of the antique aqueduct were found. In the Museum of the city you can see archeological collections with prehistoric and early Croatian findings as well as some items from the ship from the 16th century which sank in the vicinity of Biograd. During summer months the event Biograd summer is traditionally organized. It includes manifestations like concerts, exhibitions in the Museum of the City and different sport competitions.

Like every other place, Biograd offers many restaurants with national and international dishes. Do to the marinas, the culinary offer in the city has a great variety.
